 【News release: Public Relations Office】

Sept. 15, 2014 was the school opening ceremony of the 103 academic year. Three rituals were held for students of the 5-year junior college, 4-year college and division of continual education, respectively. A special activity named “Tea Offering Service” gives students chances to express their respect and gratitude to teachers. A Mass was also hosted by Father Peter FEI from Tainan parish.

Members of Wenzao Student Union stood in front of the school gates on Minzu Road and Dingzhong Road to welcome students back to school for the new semester. Professor Tsai, Ching-hwa, the Deputy President welcomed all the freshmen to join the Wenzao family; he mentioned that there are nearly 300,000 items in the Library and encouraged everyone to use the resources on campus. Furthermore, he indicated that the fourth grade students of the 5-year junior college are now facing new challenges of life after becoming upper-grade students; he anticipated that they should master the last two years at school and train themselves to have the capability of independent thinking and judgment.

Due to the local gas explosion accident which occurred this summer, some Wenzao students were volunteers to glorify the school motto. Awards were granted in the ceremonies for their contributions. Chen, Wen-min, the fourth grade student of 5-year junior college majoring in German said that he had received information from Facebook and registered as a rescue member. He sincerely hoped that the victims of this disaster could have their normal life back soon.

An activity named “Respect Teachers” is combined with the “Tea Offering Service” for the first time in school opening ceremonies. Tea, throat candies and flowers all represent gifts to show respect to teachers. A ritual of “Heritage and Continuance” was held; the fourth grade students of the 5-year junior college gave their old school uniforms to the freshmen; it has the meaning of heritage and their tutors tie them the neckties which signify the responsibilities of the new life. The ancient ritual was integrated into the ceremonies. Warm feelings were raised among teachers and students.

After the school opening ceremonies, a Carnival was held by 31 students clubs. They located their stands on the main path toward the Zhishan Hall for attracting freshmen to join clubs. On that afternoon, famous bands and singers were invited for the Ceremony Party that brings out the vitality of the school.

After the classes, a Mass was hosted by Father Peter FEI from Tainan parish in the Chapel in Praise of Jesus. The emeritus professor, sister Fidelis, Wang, osu., Professor Tsai, Ching-hwa, the Deputy President and most  senior supervisors of the school participated in the Mass. We prayed, read poetry in the bible and listened to the Gospels to praise God and show our gratitude.
