     The unveiling ceremony of the Research Center for Overseas Community Affairs in Vietnam, which Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages was commissioned by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) to establish, was held on March 25th. The ceremony was jointly chaired by Mei-Hua Chen, Ed.D., Academic Vice President; Ching-Hwa Tsai, Ph.D., Vice President for Development; Han-Chang Hsu, Director of the Research Center and professor of the Department of Applied Chinese; and Professor Shih-Chang Hsin, Deputy Minister of OCAC, who came down to Kaohsiung for this particular event.

     Wenzao has been proactive in various internationalization policies and strategies for nearly a decade, and has garnered remarkable results in Southeast Asia. Units concerned include the Department of Applied Chinese and Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, the Department of Foreign Language Instruction, the Chinese Language Center under the Office of International and Cross-strait Cooperation, the Center for Southeast Asian Languages Teaching under the College of European and Asian Languages, and the Hanoi Taiwan Education Center that Wenzao established within the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in addition to years-long foundation-based support. Besides years of exchanges and visits, various events have also been organized, including academic conferences, Chinese language teaching workshops, teacher training programs in Vietnam, research and lectures by visiting professors, etc. What"s more, Southeast Asian language teaching materials have been published to support universities, schools at other levels, and Taiwanese businessmen in Vietnam.

     Before the unveiling ceremony, a Wenzao teacher delegation was led by the Hanoi Taiwan Education Center to host the "2016 Taiwan Higher Education Fair", which started from March 19th, in Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Thai Nguyen, respectively, attracting the participation of 38 schools and more than 4,000 students in Vietnam. In the future, the Research Center will serve to promote Chinese language teaching in universities, thereby strengthening the global mobility of faculty and students. It will also coordinate with national policies to assist Taiwan"s overseas young compatriots to carry out advanced studies back in Taiwan and, in turn, devote themselves to overseas community affairs in Vietnam.
