 【News release: Public Relations Office】

Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and LDC Hotels and Resorts Group held a signing ceremony for an industry-academia cooperation agreement between the two sides at the Group"s Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung on October 3rd. Wenzao University Vice President for International Affairs Samuel C.Y. Ku, LDC Hotels and Resorts Human Resource Department Executive Director Kevin Chu and Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung General Manager Kevin Yen signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties. In the future, both sides will jointly organize commissioned training for enterprises, collaborate on teaching by experts from the industry, establish student internship courses and camps, and co-organize academic and teaching forums and exhibition. Hopefully, through further strengthening of collaboration, both parties will incubate talents for the tourism and hospitality industry.

In his address, Kevin Chu pointed out that the LDC Group covers northern, central, southern and eastern Taiwan, and extends its business as far as Italy. Director Chu lauded Wenzao University for not only possessing an advantage in language skills, but also demonstrates a proactive attitude in training cross-discipline talents. This makes the University one of the important partners for the LDC Group in its effort to incubate management trainees. In the future, not only will the students of Wenzao University have the opportunity to engage in internships at the LDC Group during the period of their studies; they will also have the chance to become management trainees for lower, middle and top level management positions at the hotel chain. They might even have the opportunity to intern or work at LDC Group"s hotels abroad.

Vice President for International Affairs Samuel C.Y. Ku remarked that Wenzao is the only foreign languages university in Taiwan, and also that the School is celebrating its 50th founding anniversary this year. This year, Wenzao University continues to win the approval of well-known publications. Not only is the school ranked first place for the foreign language/communication arts category on the list of Taiwanese colleges and universities as ranked by businesses, but Wenzao also landed in fifth place in Global View Magazine"s National vocational schools, colleges and universities globalization ranking. President Ku pointed out that the school offers students the opportunity for internships which are not restricted to Taiwan; it even arranges for students to intern abroad, providing opportunities that combine interning with learning languages. In addition, Wenzao University nurtures "composite" talents who undergo training across disciplines. Students are required to have foreign language skills in addition to specialized training. At the same time, the school has placed an emphasis on moral education since its founding. Hopefully, the partnership between Wenzao University and the LDC Group can create results that benefit the school, the hotel chain and the students.

In his address, the General Manager of Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung Kevin Yen noted that the hotel was founded 32 years ago in 1984 . It began working with Wenzao as far back as 31 years ago. There are alumni of Wenzao University among the first-generation employees of Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung. Currently, among the staff of the Company, Wenzao alumni account for one-third of the customer service department and half of the room reservation department. General Manager Yen took the opportunity to express his thanks to Wenzao University for training talents with outstanding foreign language skills. Yen further emphasizes that those working in the hotel industry must possess the characteristic of being "nosy", creative curiosity. He discovered that the alumni of Wenzao who are working at Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung all demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, and are very self-demanding. They will do things on their own with satisfactory results without being ordered by their superiors. This demonstrates the solid training and education they received at Wenzao University. He hopes that in the future, both sides will continue to conduct exchanges in the forms of mutual visits, student activities, academic exchanges and industry internship.

Following the signing of the agreement, the two sides exchanged gifts. On behalf of Wenzao University, Vice President for International Affairs Samuel C.K. Ku presented a crystal paper weight of the School and a commemorative banner flag to the LDC Hotels and Resorts Group. In return, the representative of the LDC Hotels and Resorts Group presented the School with a commemorative plaque with an eagle totem which symbolizes the spirit of Chateau de Chine Kaohsiung, hoping Wenzao will soar into the sky by nurturing even more professional talents with foreign language skills. This will surely increase the profile of Wenzao University on the international stage.

The LDC Hotels and Resorts Group has been known for strengthening its ties with schools and universities on post-graduation career fast-tracking and industry-academia cooperation since 2014. Over the past two years, it has set up joint projects with over ten academic institutions in the country, training many hundreds of outstanding tourism and hospitality personnel and obtaining numerous achievements in the field of industry-academia partnership. This time, through its collaboration with Wenzao University, the Group not only strives to nurture talents and relevant cooperation across different aspects, but also conducts extracurricular activity match-making and collaboration with Wenzao University by utilizing its resources and foreign language specialty. This will allow students to take part in the promotion and charity events organized by the Hotel, or commission the outstanding faculty of the University to conduct foreign language programs for the Hotel. In response to the internationalization of the LDC brand, there will be numerous opportunities for assignments abroad. Therefore, the LDC Hotels and Resorts Group seeks to use this opportunity to work with schools and universities in order to incubate prospective staff members for foreign assignments. Beginning with the hiring of interns, the aim is to attract students who agree with the core beliefs of the LDC Hotels and Resorts Group. Not only will students be able to sharpen their professional skills through internship, but they will also be able to serve more foreign customers with their foreign language skills.
