【News Release: Public Relations Office】

Ho, Yu, a third-year student from Wenzao’s Department of Foreign Language Instruction, joined the MOFA International Youth Ambassador Exchange Program this summer. After a rigorous selection process, she was chosen to be one of the 2017 international youth ambassadors, and went to Malaysia and Thailand on behalf of Taiwan in late August for a ten-day diplomatic visit and cultural exchange events to promote Taiwan.

The theme of the 2017 MOFA International Youth Ambassador Exchange Program is New Taiwan Generation, New Southbound Vision. A total of 75 youth ambassadors participated in three different tours in six countries: India-Singapore, Thailand-Malaysia, and Indonesia-Philippines, in conducting a ten-day exchange event. The tours focused on exchange and study, volunteer service, courtesy call and visit, as well as cultural diplomacy, along with a small, exquisite art performance to present Taiwan to overseas youths. Together with other delegates, Ho went to Thailand and Malaysia, where she met Ambassador Chang, Chi-ping, representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia; Ambassador Tung, Chen-yuan, representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand; and local government officials.

Ho said that she and other delegates were invited to symposiums during the visit to understand the culture of Thailand and Malaysia. For instance, they went to King Prajadhipok's Institute (KPI) to have a better understanding of the development of Thailand’s politics and democracy, and to the Marine Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) to learn about the relationship between humans and the ocean. In addition, to broaden the extent of the exchanges between the delegation and the countries visited, they also visited GMM Grammy Public Company Limited in Thailand and Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad in Malaysia, and underwent a local radio interview. The delegates played the roles of youth ambassadors very well, and successfully promoted Taiwanese culture.

Ho further mentioned that the tours enabled her to experience the tenderness of the world. During the visit, she and other delegates visited families suffering from poverty and illness in Thailand in the company of Tzu Chi volunteers, and provided humane care for the disadvantaged. Ho said that it is an honor for her to have the opportunity to exchange her ideas with foreign people as Taiwan’s international youth ambassador and to contribute her efforts to Taiwanese diplomacy, as it not only broadens her international perspective, but also boosts Taiwan’s visibility on the world stage. After returning to Taiwan, she loves her beautiful homeland even better. Ho believes that “In life, every ending is another beginning,” and that she expects to contribute more efforts to benefit Taiwan in the future, with the enthusiasm of being the youth ambassador.
