       The Department of Spanish at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages recently delivered excellent performances in international competitions. The Head of the Department, Pi-Chiao Liu, coached Zi-Yi Yang and Yi-Ching Chen in the 2-year college program and Yu-Xuan Wu, Yi-Ying Li, Yu-Ching Tseng and Shin-Yi Chang in the 4-year college program to participate in the 7th Blue Carpet Tec Academy Awards (a micro movie competition of Tecnológico de Monterrt, Campus Puebla). They won Best Pronunciation, Best Documentary, and Best Editing Awards. Students in the fourth year of the 5-year junior college program, Hui-Shin Nian and Zhi-Chian Peng, entered Concurso Cervantes en Taiwán 2018. They gave strong performances in the first and second rounds, and advanced to the final round.
  
  The Department of Spanish provided a course, Digital Presentation of Spanish Culture, in cooperation with Tecnológico de Monterrt, Campus Puebla, in Mexico this year. Students from both schools were divided into groups and entered the 7th Blue Carpet Tec Academy Awards competition. Zi-Yi Yang and Yi-Ching Chen in the first year of the 2-year college program produced the micro movie, Local Gourmet, and won Best Pronunciation and Best Documentary Awards. Students from Class B of the fourth year of the 4-year college program, Yu-Xuan Wu, Yi-Ying Li, Yu-Ching Tseng and Shin-Yi Chang, teamed up with students from Tecnológico de Monterrt, Campus Puebla, to produce a Spanish micro movie, Made in Taiwan and Mexico, and were awarded Best Editing. The lecturer of the course and the Head of the Department of Spanish, Pi-Chiao Liu, said that the collaboration with a foreign school breaks down international barriers and allows students to gain international teamwork experience.
  
  The Department of Spanish recently organized the 1st Concurso Cervantes en Taiwán 2018 with the JAMM Active Educational Foundation. The competition took place in Kaohsiung City Government. Students in the fourth year of the 5-year junior college program, Hui-Shin Nian and Zhi-Chian Peng, proceeded to the final round after the first two rounds (film and interview). They demonstrated a high level of speaking skills in Spanish with an agile mindset. President Shieu-Ming Chou of Wenzao was present on the day when the final round was held to encourage the hosting organization. The President met Ambassador Marta Chang de Tsien of the Republic of El Salvador, Secretary-General Manuel Lago of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Minister Jaime José López of the Republic of El Salvador in Taiwan, and David Meron of the American Institute in Taiwan.
  
  The Department of Spanish offers interdisciplinary Spanish courses on news, movie, marketing and translation to meet industry and social needs. It aims to cultivate bilingual talents (English/Spanish) to have humanity/cultural competence, global vision and professional knowledge by providing them with a wide range of elective professional courses,  whereby their employment competitiveness will be improved.
