Wenzao’s massive open online courses (MOOCs) will be officially available on the 20th. Eleven courses will be offered at the initial stage, including those on the English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean languages. Courses on life education, ethical speculation, appreciation of famous Western paintings and painters, and applications of technology will be offered as well. All of the courses are free. It takes approximately 6-10 hours to complete a course. The public is welcome to register for a course online. Once they fulfil the criteria for self-study, they can print a self-study certificate online. The website of Wenzao’s MOOCs is as follows: http://mooc.wzu.edu.tw/. The public is welcome to register for a course and use MOOCs as a channel for lifelong and autonomous learning.

Instructors for Wenzao’s MOOCs are its senior faculty members. Titles of the first batch of courses are as follows: Basic English Grammar (I), French Reading and Composition (I), German Grammar (I), Spanish (I), Japanese Pronunciation and Listening Practice, Japanese Conversation (I), Basic Korean Pronunciation, Life Education (I), Ethical Speculation: What Is Right to Do?, Appreciation of Famous Western Paintings and Painters, and Applications of Science and Technology. In recent years, Wenzao has been actively prepared to establish its cyber university, which is now offering nearly a hundred online courses or digital teaching materials. Materials used in MOOCs are selected out of Wenzao’s digital teaching materials. More advanced language courses and courses on specialized subjects will be offered in the future. It is expected that as many as 60 MOOCs will be offered by August next year.

Wenzao has continued to promote holistic education since its establishment. Its Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Li-Yen Chen, received the Ministry of Education’s Outstanding Educator Award in Promotion of Life Education in 2015; he also hosted the cooperation project on online life education course for Chinese teachers working in elementary and middle schools in the United States. This time he prepares the course, Ethical Speculation: What Is Right to Do? Based on the educational philosophy of the Order of St. Ursula, namely Whole Person Development, this course provides students with guidance on knowing “more comprehensive care for, and value of, life” through such course units as Ethics of Life, by equipping students with critical thinking. It is one of the key MOOCs.

All of Wenzao’s MOOCs are free. The public can register for a course online. Once they fulfil the criteria for self-study, they can print a self-study certificate online. If a learner is a senior high or vocational school student who plans to apply for admission to Wenzao, he/she can include his/her self-study certificate in his/her application documents for admission via recommendation or screening, in order to make his/her application stand out. The public is welcome to register for a course.
