Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages will hold an annual graduation ceremony on June 21st. “Graduation Mass and Investiture Ceremony” was held earlier for the graduates this year. With the Wenzao spirit, teachers personally draped yellow and green ribbon over the shoulders of every graduate, expected the graduates to uphold the school motto “revere the divine, love the human” to serve the community.

1535 graduates of Wenzao University were divided into three sessions this year in College of English and International Studies, College of Cultural and Educational Innovation and Division of Continuing Education, and College of European and Asian Languages. “Graduation Mass and Investiture Ceremony” contains two significant meanings: “gratitude” and “commission”. Priest Jiang Ling officiated the first ceremony and encouraged graduates with the words of the Gospel of Mark Chapter XII during the sermon, “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” and “thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,” which matches the Wenzao’s motto “revere the divine, love the human.”

Priest Jiang Ling further noted that, “3L” (Life, language, leadership), often mentioned by Wenzaorians, is about the students’ effort at school. “Life” is the well-known “live”, which is the opposite of “die.” Only love can enrich people’s life, if there is no love in life, it is not “live” but evil” which is written in reverse of “life”.

After that, Priest Jiang Ling emphasized again the motto “Revere the divine, love the human” and Ursula School’s spirit “serviam”. He said, “Revere the divine, love the human” is the basis of all goods and ethical deeds, so Wenzaorians should remember and follow the spirit, and the individual life will grow. Also, he expected the graduates to uphold the spirit "serviam" (I am willing to serve others) of serving the community and caring for the disadvantaged.

Finally, the officiated Priest blessed the yellow and green ribbons which symbolize “Light and Hope”, and presented the ribbons to the President of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Lucia S. Lin. Then the ribbons were passed down to deans, faculties and the teachers of the graduates. At last, the teachers wore the ribbons for the graduates in person. The students would inherit the Wenzao’s spirit, which means from now on, the graduates should take advantage of all they had learned to serve the people and take their lives to a new level.
