This week brings the ‘Falling in Love with English Camp’ for the freshmen of the 4-year College, Day Division; it has been held for twelve consecutive years by Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. 1,300 freshmen from all over Taiwan join this Camp in two stages. Freshmen and their parents in the first stage reported to the Camp on Aug. 3rd and were welcomed by President Lucia S. Lin, all of the supervisors, as well as tutors. The Opening Ceremony was held on the following day. It is a whole new experience for many freshmen who will take an oath in English for the first time in their life.

In order to help the freshmen become familiar with campus, the School holds this six-day ‘Falling in Love with English Camp’ so that they could get used to the ‘total English’ teaching environment before school starts. During this period, they are required to live in the dormitory and speak English all day long, which makes this Camp the most creative and challenging one for freshmen nationwide.

In the parents-teachers meeting, President Lin sensed the enthusiastic participation of students’ parents and great interactions with the School; she has also attended the process of registration as well as meetings with each department. She pointed out that Wenzao always focuses on students’ global perspectives and offers many opportunities, as well as internships, to foreign exchange students. She hopes that students can prepare for their future careers through the programs of international exchange and internships.

Since last October, the School has been planning the programs and recruiting students as the camp service members for the ‘Falling in Love with English Camp’. 83 people with outstanding English capability were carefully chosen. On the provided programs, six English courses in three days were designed by teachers from the Centre for English Language Teaching. Freshmen are encouraged to speak English in their classes.

Different activities, such as brain twisters, singing contests, ground games, and drama contests are also planned to make the Camp more interesting. Freshmen will enhance their capability and strengthen their self confidence in learning English by participating in group competitions.
