 【News release: Public Relations Office】

The admin team of the School visited the United States in Sept.; besides the partner schools, they also visited the Alumni Associations of South/North California and Houston, respectively and were entertained enthusiastically. The team members include the emeritus professor, former Chairman of the Board sister Fidelis, Wang, osu., the Acting President, Professor Tsai, Ching-hwa, Dean of International and Cross-strait Cooperation, Dr. Kit Lam and Director of Office of Public Relations, Yu-chan Lin. Sister Fidelis visited the alumni 12 years ago after their first visit in the year 2002.

70 alumni of Alumni Association of South California came to welcome the delegation sincerely

The grand party was planned several months before the visit and the news was published in the media. On Sept. 20th, 70 alumni rushed into the Chen Chin Bookstore to show their hospitality. When they saw the Sister, tears, smiling faces and hugs all presented their love to her. One of the alumni from the first year of Wenzao, Guo Chiang-chiang presented a portrait of the Sister, which is an oil painting painted by her; it looks remarkably like the Sister; everyone was so happy and the atmosphere was extremely touching.

Many of them said that “Wenzao is the school we love the most!” They shared their experiences and gave the best wishes to all. Sister Fidelis, Wang, osu. was invited to give a speech; she picked up the passage from the I Cor. which said that all your achievements, such as speaking multiple languages or having much good fortune one day will be all gone, but only LOVE will be there, because it is the treasure that matters most in life.

The Acting President, Professor Tsai, Ching-hwa, introduced the current school statutes and expressed that “Revere the Divine, Love the Human” the school motto is always emphasized after the school establishment, nearly half a century before. The school focuses on cultivating whole persons. He appreciated the support and contribution to Wenzao and anticipated that alumni could have more contacts with the school, and that the strengths of the alumni can be greatly elaborated.

The chairman of the Alumni Association of South California Wang Si-wen (a graduate from the first year of Wenzao, who majored in French) took this opportunity to run the selection for the next chairman and Wang Shi-kai (the graduate from the fifteenth year of Wenzao, who majored in English) was chosen as the new chair, eliciting a burst of applause.

Alumni Association of North California sang the school anthem

On Sept. 21st, the gathering was held in one of the Chinese restaurants in Silicon Valley; 40 alumni were there to meet the delegation. Some of them even drove 2-3 hours from home to the restaurant.

There were alumni from the first year of Wenzao to the 44th year, including the just graduated Ceng Buo-rong who majored in Japanese. He heard this great news and attended the gathering without any consideration.

Chairman Du Mei-zhen (the graduate from the tenth year of Wenzao, who majored in Spanish) was the hostess for that evening; her spontaneous talks brought great joy to all. The delegation talked to each participant face to face, respectively; the current school statutes were introduced and everyone felt that they were back in the good old days.

One of the alumni is a painter, Wu Yi-zhen, who presented paintings to Sister Fidelis, Wang, osu. and showed the gratitude of all the alumni to the eternal care of the Sister. Before the party ended, all of the alumni sang the school anthem to reveal the spirit of the Wenzaoneans. They also took the chance to select the next chairman and Wu Chun-juan (the graduate from the ninth year of Wenzao, who majored in English) was chosen as the new chair.

Alumni Association of Houston prepared a special ice-cream cake to show their hospitality

On Sept. 23rd, a gathering was held in the residence of Chen Ciong-hui (the graduate from the first year of Wenzao, who majored in German). Nearly 30 alumni were there to meet the delegation. They stood in front of the house and under the guidance of Yan Hui-fen (the graduate from the fifth year of Wenzao, who majored in English); they sang the school anthem to welcome the delegation from far away.

They particularly made a special ice-cream cake with the Wenzao badge in appreciation and with full sincerity. The delegation blew out the candles and unveiled the party. Many alumni came from Texas to meet the Sister; they treasured this gathering. The party was planned by one of the retired faculty members, Chang Shao-hua. Her enthusiastic participation warmed the hearts of all. Donations were freely made; a check was drawn by the chairman Yan to support the future development of Wenzao.
