In order to strengthen the academic collaboration and exchanges between Wenzao and her sister schools in Spain, President Chou led a delegation to participate in the Interuniversity Congress "St. Teresa of Avila, Maestra de Vida" held by Universidad Católica Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ávila, sign partnership agreements with Unversidad de Rovira i Virgili and Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Cuenca, and renew partnerships with other sister schools. Local alumni and Wenzao students who study or have internships all welcomed their arrival; it is hoped that more academic opportunities can be seized. After their return, a sharing session with administrators and teachers was held.
The delegation members include President Chou, Dr. Kit Lam, Dean of the Office of International and Cross-strait Cooperation, Associate Prof. Yao-Tang Lin, Ursuline Education Centre and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and Prof. Pi-Chiao Liu, Chairperson of Dept. of Spanish.
Their first stop was the Unversidad de Rovira i Virgili for signing the academic agreement of collaboration and exchange; they were heartily welcomed by the President Josep Anton Ferré Vidal. On the next day, they visited Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Cuenca for signing the agreement of exchange. Five Wenzao students attended the language courses for the first time in this school. The university particularly arranged internships in the Tourist Bureau of Cuenca, City Government, advertising company and hotels, respectively. The delegation not only visited the school environment, but also the sites of the internship. More internship programs for Wenzao students are anticipated. While visiting the City, the delegation received a personal welcome from the Mayor Ángel Mariscal.
A study group from the Dept. of Spanish was at one of the sister schools this summer: Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha. President Chou showed her concern for their learning status. There have been frequent interactions between the two schools, and she sincerely invited their students to come to Wenzao for a short-term study program in business next summer.
Renewal of partnership was carried out with Universidad de Valladolid and Universidad de Salamanca. The libraries for academic research of both schools archive great collections and numerous ancient books which are extremely valuable for historical studies. Wenzao teachers absolutely could find priceless information on Catholicism in these two libraries. Furthermore, the exchange students between Wenzao and Universidad de Salamanca used to pay tuition at their own expense; now, after the renewal of partnership, if the numbers of exchange students are equal, students will be exempted from paying tuition, which constitutes a breakthrough in the academic exchange.
Wenzao delegation also visited Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain and was hosted by Javier Ching-Shan Hou, Taiwan’s Ambassador to Spain. He stated that Wenzao had an influential contribution. There are six employees in the office and three of them are the alumni of Wenzao; he is impressed by their outstanding performance. They are Yi-Li Yang (X24S), Shu-Li Sun (X24S), and Chiou-Jen Ting (X32S).
One of the most important events was to attend the Interuniversity Congress "St. Teresa of Avila, Maestra de Vida" held by Universidad Católica Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ávila for celebrating the 500th anniversary of St. Teresa of Avila. More than 400 scholars worldwide were the participants. Beyond interacting with other Catholic schools, the delegation also learned about the holy spirit of St. Teresa of Avila and her perspective would be integrated into the educational mission.
