Wenzao Students Won Second Places in Chinese and English Marketing Presentation Categories at MICE Destination Marketing Contest
Chairperson Dr. YuJane Chen of the Department of International Affairs, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, led a team of eleven fifth-grade English majors from Wenzao"s five-year junior college at the MOEA Bureau of Foreign Trade MICE Destination Marketing Contest 2015. Among the competitors representing 22 colleges and universities from Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and China, the Wenzao team stood out and received second places in Chinese and English Marketing Presentation categories, and third place in Commentary Reception.
The team leader Zeng Yu-jun said they devoted the past summer vacation to preparing for the competition, starting with developing the project proposal, collecting information on Kaohsiung"s MICE industry, and contacting government agencies for more information, as well as authorization for the use of photos. The team demonstrated language proficiency by offering a Chinese-English bilingual proposal for the reference of visitors. Despite not being design majors, these students still managed to design a four-meter high booth, a ship"s bow, a cabin, and a flipping board, which received positive reviews.
According to team member Chen Jia-yi, this competition provided a great chance for the team to thoroughly explore Kaohsiung"s MICE industry. In preparing for the four minute Chinese and English presentations, the team developed the structure and contents of the presentation, worked on the animations and conducted simulated Q&A sessions. These efforts paid off on the day of the competition as they made an impressive presentation and smoothly answered questions from the competition judges. Chen Jia-yi indicated that the team learned much about marketing and planning, as well as booth design, and that the competition was a chance for them to make use of language proficiency when greeting and welcoming visitors from both Taiwan and abroad. The team’s strength in languages and other skills was recognized by their rivals and the competition judges.
Wenzao Students Won Second Place at the MOE Intercollegiate Creative English Campus Tour Short Film Contest
Students enrolled in an English course of Wenzao"s four-year college program won second place at the MOE Intercollegiate Creative English Campus Tour Short Film Contest 2015 held in October. The video story began with Bishop Luo Wenzao"s battle with a language monster. To rescue the Bishop, the Wenzao students searched everywhere on campus, including the language department buildings and the library, to build up their strength. While watching the students accumulating their power, viewers are given a guided tour of Wenzao"s beautiful campus buildings and the properties that define "Wenzaorians."
